A 'driech' day today with a 'haar' coming in early across the Clyde valley from the Argyll hills and, to put a fine point on it, steady rain all morning, and this afternoon. No bird activity in the rain, but where do they all find shelter I wonder? Curiously the temperature is still relatively high, creating something new for us - humidity! The weather is changing and Autumn is under way with leaves falling and trees changing colour.
Our Rector was Celebrating at St Oswald's Church today and so we had as our Celebrant, Isabella - the Revd Isabella Dowlen, p-in-c @ St Oswald's, King's Park, Glasgow. She was warmly welcomed back as she started off at our church of St Aidan's, and she is a good preacher. She does not have a singing voice, like Colin, our Curate, but nonetheless we all sang the Eucharistic responses anyway. A visitor to church today could not be engaged and so was not engaged in too much chat afterwards. Perhaps she was just 'sussing' us out. I am trying to design a Fire Exits and Assembly Point set of sheets for the church and hall and, as we have a new building extension I had to go there today and re-design the form as I am still unfamiliar with the new building layout.
As we face the resignation of our Rector Paul, in mid-November, I am planning to sketch out a new Parish Profile to put to the new Vacancy Committee of the Vestry, and to the Dean, the Very Revd Dr Gregor Duncan, as well as our Diocesan Bishop, who is also Primus inter Pares
of the Scottish Episcopal Church. This is not as easy as it may sound; however, there are others to help. People to see - Reg Williams with his Minutes of the Building Project Site Meeting, Laurence Maclaren, our Treasurer, with concerns about Insurance reports and the Electrical Surveyor's report, Shirley McGreevy regarding Aidancraft's offer to re-design and re-plant the Remembrance Garden, Lydia Tate who had given flower money in remembrance of her late husband Roy and their wedding anniversary so time was given to listen to Lydia.
I reminded Lydia that her namesake was the backbone of her church in Biblical times so we laughed.
